What Information does Volt Stats collect, and how is it used?
User-Provided Information
Volt Stats does not require that you enter any personally identifying information other than a username, password and email address. The username and password does not have to be your OnStar username and password. Your email address will be used to reset your password and inform you if your car has failed to communicate with OnStar. It will not be used for any other purpose without your consent. Your email address will never be shown publicly on the site or shared with any third party without your consent. All other information that you enter into the site is optional, and may be displayed publicly on the site.
Information Received from OnStar
To get any value out of Volt Stats, you must link one of your vehicles through OnStar with Volt Stats. When you link a vehicle to Volt Stats, Volt Stats will receive some identifying information about your vehicle (such as the Vehicle Identification Number and the type of vehicle) and a token that can be used to request further readings from your vehicle. Readings taken from your vehicle will contain data points including, but not limited to:
- Reading Timestamp
- Odometer Reading
- EV Odometer Reading
- Total Gallons of Gas Burned
The data collected will not include any information about the location of your vehicle. You can view all of the readings collected from your vehicle at any time by logging into the site and downloading your vehicle's raw CSV data. No information obtained directly from a vehicle reading and stored in our database will ever be hidden from the CSV output. All readings collected from OnStar may be displayed publicly on the site.
All communication with OnStar will be treated in accordance with OnStar's privacy policy. OnStar's privacy policy is available at: https://www.onstar.com/web/portal/privacy.
Do third parties see and/or have access to information obtained by Volt Stats?
With the exception of your username, password and email address, all information you provide to the site should be considered public and viewable by third parties. All vehicle information received from OnStar should be considered public and viewable by third parties.
What is Volt Stats' data retention policy, and what are my opt-out rights?
Volt Stats will retain all data collected for as long as you are a member of the site. We would be glad to terminate your account and delete all of your data at any point in time. To terminate your account, please email mrosack@sacknet.org. We will make every effort to respond within a reasonable amount of time. Data from deleted accounts cannot be recovered.
